Tax-free weekend is at the end of July this year

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) — Parents, you may be counting down the days for your kids to head back to school, but your kids probably aren’t.

Here are some helpful tips to get your children ready to return to their classrooms.

Tax-free weekend is coming up at the end of July, from 12:01AM on the 26th though the 28th at 11:59PM. Make sure to get your list prepared and have your kids pitch in when you go shopping.

Band alumni invited to return for rodeo parade

FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) – If you were once a member of a school band and you miss performing, there’s still a chance for you.

Two former Franklin High band members want you to come out and perform in the upcoming Franklin Rodeo Parade on May 11.

Daniel McGinley and Stacey Carroll both went to Franklin High and started a Facebook group to recruit former band members.

Split vote derails school rezoning plan, forces WCS to look for other options

A spirited, last-ditch push to stop what has become a controversial rezoning plan managed to stir just enough doubt among Williamson County School District board members.

Amid growing concern that the plan served only as a Band-Aid, board members entered into a lengthy debate Monday night — prompting a failed motion to postpone the vote — before eventually coming to a 6-6 stalemate, effectively creating the schism needed to derail the plan.

At least for now.

Applications for Open-Zoned Schools Begin February 19

The Open-Zoned Schools online request system will open February 19 for parents to submit applications.

Parents must submit open-zoning requests via the online request system. No paper forms will be accepted. Once open, the online request system can be found on the School Zones page of the WCS website. Parents must choose one of three options after creating an account: Open-Zoned Schools; Grandfather Provision for rising 5th, 8th, 11th or 12th grade students; or Out of Zone – All Other Provisions.
